Capitalism vs. ArtPosted by Himera (Ljubljana, Slovenia) on 13 March 2008 in Architecture and Portfolio. This is a very old building in a city where I live and I have passed by it so many times and whenever I looked at it I noticed a new beautiful detail that I have never noticed before. This building has a special charm and elegance. In the past architecture used to be all about art, now I have a feeling everything is about the money. Modern buildings are completely free of sculptures and other beautiful details, because making those takes time...and time (as "we" all know) is money. Capitalism vs. Art - which do you think will win?

On the issue of capitalism versus art, to me it's not an issue. Times change and there is normally something beuatiful to find in most things - one just has to look for it. I love some of the new buildings with sleek lines that reach into the clouds, but also appreciate the art shown in the photo. If it wasn't for capitalism, we wouldn't have the opporunity today to be a part of this wonderful community, where all of us can experience the inspiration that is behind the superb photos that get posted each day. 24 Mar 2008 3:50pm drphoto from Newcastle upon Tyne, United KingdomI'm afraid capitalism and spectacle seem to be winning hands down at every turn. When a modern designer spends the extra money to include purely aesthetic features it is normally mere pastiche. There are, however, some truly beautiful modern buildings. I like this building and I like the photograph too =D) Dan 12 Apr 2008 12:42pm |
